Through our work supporting people with long term conditions in West Newcastle, we know the importance of healthy eating for people’s health and wellbeing. We also know the challenges that many people face in accessing fresh food, and the importance of people being given the skills and equipment to cook a healthy diet for themselves and their families.
The work of our social prescribing link workers has improved the wellbeing of many people in Newcastle. So the recommendation to pilot the use of link workers to provide dietary support and motivate them to engage in a personal programme that meets their needs is particularly exciting.
